The West Alice Community Garden is a community outreach ministry that was created out of a playground that was no longer being used. The designers of the garden took a 2000 square foot area of sand and transformed it into a beautiful garden that now provides opportunities for people to not only grow food for themselves, but to also give it away to those who are in need.
The mission of the garden is to grow healthy fruits and vegetables in plots open to interested parties, and in so doing to build a sense of community, provide an educational experience and make nutritious food available to the hungry.
The Community Garden’s new planting season began in February, but there are still some beds available for those who would like to garden with other like-minded individuals. The raised beds are filled with healthy soil on an automatic drip watering system. Spaces are rented per season: $65 for a full bed or $32.50 for a half-bed. Donations to help support the garden are also welcome.
Spring Planting Classes have also been scheduled, and there are plans to expand the garden to include fruit trees. If you’re interested in
